Korean reactions to the new song “APT” by BLACKPINK’s Rosé & Bruno Mars
“The hook ‘APT~ APT~’ is insanely addictive!”
BLACKPINK’s Rosé released the new song ‘APT.’, and on its first day of release, it topped Korea’s real-time Melon TOP100 chart.
Melon TOP100 is Korea’s most authoritative chart, often referred to as the “concrete” chart due to how difficult it is to change its upper rankings.
Currently, the major contenders dominating the charts are Jennie, Aespa, and Day6. Yet, Rosé’s new song ‘APT.’ has skyrocketed to the top!
Upon hearing this song, Koreans in their 30s and 40s will be reminded of the drinking game ‘3.6.9!’ (Korean pronunciation: SMA-YOOK-GU), while younger Koreans in their 20s will think of the ‘Apartment’ drinking game. International fans may be reminded of Toni Basil’s ‘Mickey’, as ‘APT.’ actually samples this song.
Now, a quick explanation of the ‘Apartment’ game!
-
Everyone stacks their hands on top of each other at random, forming a tower.
-
The leader (game master) calls out a number, which represents a floor of the apartment.
-
Starting from the bottom of the stack, players remove their hands one by one and place them back on top while counting out loud: 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor, etc.
-
Whoever is on the number called by the leader must drink as a penalty.

It’s a game where the leader rarely gets caught, but in the following video, SHINee’s Minho (the leader) gets caught! 🙂
In Korea, there are so, so, so many different drinking games that everyone can enjoy together while drinking. These games require quick reflexes and a good memory, so the moment someone falls behind, they quickly end up drinking a penalty shot and naturally become ‘unsealed’ (?!)
Rosé’s new song ‘3.6.9’… no, ‘APT.’ is more than enough to awaken the instincts of Koreans(!). Korean online communities are already buzzing with people addicted to her new track.
The fresh combination of Rosé’s unique vocal tone and Bruno Mars’ sweet voice is incredibly captivating! Plus, her approach of presenting a kitschy and lovely image to the public is enough to turn even non-fans into her new fans.
