1. Wedding Impossible (웨딩 임파서블)

Cast: Jeon Jong-seo, Moon Sang-min, Kim Do-wan, Bae Yoon-kyung

“Wedding Impossible” is a romantic comedy drama about ‘Ah-jeong,’ a nameless actress preparing for a disguised marriage with a secret chaebol heir, and ‘Ji-han,’ the younger brother who likes the brother-in-law-to-be, who opposes the marriage.

2. Wonderful World (원더풀 월드)

Premiere: March 1, 2024~ (MBC)
Cast: Kim Nam-joo, Cha Eun-woo, Kim Kang-woo, Lim Se-mi

“Wonderful World” is a human mystery drama starring the face genius of K-POP idol group ASTRO, Cha Eun-woo. Eun-soo-hyun (Kim Nam-joo), who personally punishes the murderer who killed her son, unravels the mysterious secret intertwined on that day. The first teaser and poster are currently released.

3. The Prince Disappeared (세자가 사라졌다)

Premiere: March 9, 2024~ (MBN)
Cast: EXO’s Suho, Hong Ye-ji, Myung Se-bin

EXO’s Suho takes the lead role in “The Prince Disappeared.” It’s a romantic comedy about the outer strength-inner weakness prince, ‘Lee Geon,’ who suddenly becomes the victim of a kidnapping. Hong Ye-ji portrays the character of the best female disguise expert in Joseon as Suho’s counterpart. With just the character’s colors, can you not anticipate some comedic tales unfolding? Additionally, making a comeback after a long hiatus, actress Myung Se-bin takes on the role of ‘Min Soo-ryeon,’ who, trapped in high status, must give up love. 4. Queen of Tears (눈물의 여왕)

Premiere: March 16, 2024 (tvN)
Cast: Kim Soo-hyun, Kim Ji-won

It’s a long-awaited return to the screen for actor Kim Soo-hyun, known for his roles in “My Love From the Star” and “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.”

“Queen of Tears” tells the story of ‘Hong Hae-in,’ the owner of the Queens Group conglomerate and Baek Hyun-woo, the son of a rural village leader, as they navigate through the precarious crisis of their third-year marriage, miraculously finding love again. This drama is written by Park Ji-eun, the screenwriter behind internationally popular dramas like “My Love From the Star” and “Crash Landing on You.” Can’t we trust this to be another hit? The making film is currently released.

5. The Audit (감사합니다)

Premiere: Scheduled for July 2024 (tvN)
Cast: Shin Ha-kyun, Jin Goo, Lee Jeong-ha, Jo Ah-ram

The drama’s English title is “The Audit,” but its Korean title is “Thank You (감사합니다[gamsahamnida]).” The pronunciation of “gamsa” carries the meanings of both “Thank You” and “The Audit.”

“Thank You” depicts the day-to-day operations of the internal audit department of a company, showcasing the legendary audit team’s efforts to catch embezzlers. It’s a heroic tale akin to Disney+ drama “Moving.” In Lee Jeong-ha’s next project after “Moving,” fans are eager to see which character will bring laughter.

In 2024, Korean television dramas are currently gaining popularity with both viewership ratings and buzzworthy content. For a while, they couldn’t quite match up to the classics on OTT services… I’ve gathered information on five dramas among the many slated to air this year. How does that sound? IU and Park Bo-gum confirmed for a Netflix drama in 2024.

Actress and singer IU and Park Bo-gum have teamed up for a Netflix drama set to be released in over 190 countries worldwide.

The Korean title is ‘폭싹 속았수다’ which translates to ‘Well Done’ in English, a Jeju Island dialect expression.

The English title is ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines.’

Korean netizens are reacting positively to the cute English title.

‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ is set in 1950s Jeju and follows the adventurous life of a rebellious girl, Aesoon, and the son of a wealthy family, Gawoon.

With IU and Park Bo-gum in the lead roles, fans are eagerly anticipating the chemistry between these two in the refreshing backdrop of Jeju and what kind of love story they will unfold.

We conducted a vote on the most anticipated 2024 Netflix series on Naver. The vote took place from January 10th to 23rd, 2024, with approximately 16,000 Korean netizens participating.

Let’s find out the rankings of Korean Netflix content chosen by Koreans for 2024.

1st place: Squid Game Season 2 (오징어 게임 2)

Netflix’s blockbuster content ‘Squid Game.’ The lineup for ‘Squid Game Season 2’ is impressive. New actors such as Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-joon, and Lee Jin-wook will appear. There is high anticipation both domestically and internationally for Season 2. Scheduled to be released in October-November 2024.

2nd place: A Killer Paradox (살인자 O 난감)

Based on a webtoon starring Choi Woo-shik and Son Seok-koo. It tells the story of a ‘ordinary college student’ who, after a spontaneous murder, continues to kill people, and the detective who relentlessly pursues him. I’m very curious about the chemistry between actors Choi Woo-shik and Son Seok-koo.

Scheduled for release on February 9th, 2024.

3rd place: Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 (경성 크리처 2)

A drama set in Seoul during the Japanese occupation, mixing fact and fiction about Japanese atrocities. Starring Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee, ranked 3rd in the global TOP 10 on Netflix. Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 is highly anticipated with a completely different charm as the world and timeline change.

4th place: The Trauma Code: Heroes on call (중증외상센터:골든아워)

Based on a web novel starring Ju Ji-hoon, Choo Young-woo, and Yoon Kyung-ho. It tells the story of a trauma surgeon full of confidence and a sense of duty who struggles as the head of a trauma center to save lives. We’re looking forward to Ju Ji-hoon’s portrayal of various aspects of the character.

5th place: Hell 2 (지옥 2)

Also based on a webtoon. Season 1 was quite popular in Korea. Due to social controversy involving Yoo Ah-in, the lead actor has been changed to Kim Sung-cheol. However, the addition of Korea’s beloved actress Moon Geun-young has raised the expectations of Korean fans.

6th place: Sweet Home 3 (스위트 홈 3)

Starring Song Kang, Lee Jin-wook, and Lee Si-young. Filming for Season 2 was completed simultaneously with Season 1 and is currently in post-production. The eagerly awaited final series of ‘Sweet Home.’ We have to stick around till the end!

7th place: Chicken Gangjeong (닭강정)

A webtoon-based comedy with extreme absurdity. Starring Ryu Seung-ryong, Ahn Jae-hong, and Kim Yoo-jung, casting has generated high interest and anticipation. I’m curious about how they will unfold the story from the original webtoon on Netflix’s ‘Chicken Gangjeong.’

8th place: Seonsan (선산)

The first Netflix original Korean drama of 2024 starring Kim Hyun-joo and Ryu Kyung-soo. As of now, ‘Seonsan’ has already been released and is ranked 2nd among the TOP 10 series in Korea. Audiences continue to feel tension in the atmosphere of Korea’s high-quality suspense drama. I wonder how viewers from different cultures will perceive Korean-style ‘shamanism.’

9th place: Parasite: The Gray (기생수: 더 그레이)

Starring Gu Gyo-hwan, Lee Jung-hyun, and Jeon So-nee. A well-known work both domestically and internationally. The difference from the original is that the protagonist is male, unlike the female protagonist in the original ‘Parasite.’ We’re looking forward to seeing how ‘Parasite’ by Iwakami Hitoshi is interpreted in a Korean context.

10th place: Goodbye Earth (종말의 바보)

Based on a Japanese novel, this work was supposed to be released last year but was postponed due to Yoo Ah-in’s social issues. It depicts the story of people living in a world plunged into chaos as the predicted end approaches with the collision of Earth and an asteroid, 200 days away.

Now that we’ve gathered them, it seems like a considerable number of the works are adaptations of Korean webtoons into dramas.
