Let’s explore the transportation options you need to know when you visit Korea for the first time!

One of the first things you’ll need is a transportation card to use Korea’s public transportation system.

When you arrive at Incheon International Airport, don’t get lost—head straight to these places to get your card~!

Method 1: Go to a convenience store (7-Eleven, GS25) inside the airport to purchase a T-money card.

Method 2: Visit the transportation information center.
Method 3: Purchase it from a vending machine inside the subway station.

Once you have your T-money card, make sure to top it up! The minimum recharge amount is usually 1,000 KRW, and the base subway fare in Korea is 1,400 KRW (as of 2024).

If you’re traveling in Korea for a few days, I recommend charging around 30,000 KRW for a hassle-free experience.

(Any remaining balance can be refunded at a refund desk in the airport or at convenience stores when you depart! Also, the T-money card can be used for purchases at convenience stores nationwide.)

Korea’s transportation card system is very well-developed. Using the card offers discounted fares compared to cash payments, and you won’t be charged extra when transferring between buses and subways.

Now that you’ve got your transportation card and it’s topped up, to travel from Incheon International Airport to Seoul, you’ll want to take the Airport Railroad Express (A’REX).

There are two types: the express train and the regular train. The express is faster but more expensive.

Once you’re in central Seoul, check the subway map and head to your destination.
